DJ at KOPN Radio 89.5 FM in Columbia, MO
Kevin Shults fell in love with bluegrass music as a youngster in Salem, Missouri, the hometown he shares with The Dillards. There he learned to play the bluegrass instruments, concentrating on mandolin and bass fiddle. After migrating to Columbia in 1979 to attend Columbia College, Kevin became aware of KOPN and community radio. Now he’s joined the KOPN family as co-host of the High Lonesome Sound from 9 pm to midnight Sunday evenings.
Kevin has played in several bluegrass groups, including Midnight Flight with whom he traveled the US and Canada. He currently performs with the band Rural Roots.
When not broadcasting, Kevin is a self-employed artist and designer [KevinShults.com], and enjoys backyard gardening, creating art and attending bluegrass festivals.
