WORT 89.9

Madison, WI

Since 1975, WORT has broadcast a wide variety of noncommercial, independent, locally-focused news and music programs to south central Wisconsin. Our FM signal reaches a roughly 50-100 mile radius around Madison. The station webcasts all of its music, news and public affairs programs, maintaining an online archive for 2 weeks (music) and up to 2 months or more (talk shows.) Our schedule includes a small amount of syndicated programming such as Democracy Now!, BBC News Headlines, WINGS (Women’s International News Gathering Service) and This Way Out. The majority of our news and music programming is produced on site by volunteers. From Spanish language programming to science and literature, call-in shows and an hour-long local newscast every weeknight, plus music from classical to metal, folk, indie, jazz, blues, reggae and more, there’s something for everyone on our airwaves! WORT's over 300 volunteers provide most of the on-air programming. In addition, many community volunteers contribute to myriad off-air operations. The organizational structure of WORT reflects the station’s principles of democratic decision-making: Paid and unpaid workers (volunteers) elect the Board of Directors; the Board sets policy and hires full-time and part-time paid staff. The full-time staff is organized as a collective that operates within sound management practices and written policies established by the Board. The staff collective oversees the day-to-day operations of the station. WORT maintains membership or affiliation with a number of organizations, including:  Pacifica Network (affiliate station)  National Federation of Community Radio Broadcasters (NFCB)  AMARC (World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters)  Grassroots Radio Coalition  Public Radio International (PRI)  Wisconsin Broadcasters Association (WBA.) WORT is a 501(c)3 nonprofit. All donations are tax deductible to the full extent of the law. Tax ID 23-7328965. For more information, contact pledge@wortfm.org.
